On June 24, Art from Ashes took over the Youth Stage at Denver PrideFest, hosted by the Center on Colfax.

Youth Liaison, Alex Susman (he/him, age 19) and Youth Representative to the Board of Directors, Willow Tyler (they/them, age 17) performed poems written in 3 minutes in Art from Ashes workshops.

After their performances, Director of Programs, Kree Thawley, facilitated a prompt for the audience that was tailored to the occasion and encouraged audience members to come up and share. Poems celebrated self-acceptance and, of course, Pride, shedding light on the beauty that is found in being uniquely ourselves. Poets were applauded for their bravery in sharing their vulnerable poems.

In July, we keep the spirit of Pride month alive by continuing our long-time partnership with The Center on Colfax through the Rainbow Alley youth space, facilitating workshops for queer youth participating in The Center’s Summer Academy programming. We are thrilled we can continue partnering with Rainbow Alley and create a space where everyone can let their inherent creative genius shine!
