she/her

Carol Covington is an Army veteran, mother, grandmother, and poet. She attended the Community Colleges of Aurora and Denver, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree in 2018. Carol completed her Bachelor of Arts at Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2020, focusing on Healing Trauma through Creative Self-Expression. While enrolled at MSU, she worked as a freelance journalist for RED magazine. Carol credits her involvement with a group of Theater and English students at MSU with helping her create a path to finding her voice. She is now an editor for New Feathers Anthology magazine.

Carol discovered Art from Ashes in 2022, and knew immediately that she had to find a way to be a part of AfA’s purpose. She serves as a guest poet in AfA youth workshops, and joined the Board of Directors in 2024. Carol believes in the mission of Art from Ashes because AfA’s creative empowerment programs allow youth the opportunity to give words to their thoughts, instead of allowing their behavior to speak for them. In AfA workshops, being silent and invisible are no longer necessary.
